SHREDDED WHEAT BREAD
  • Ingredients
  • 3/4 cup shredded wheat biscuits (cereal)
  • 3 teaspoons salt
  • 3/4 cup grapenuts (cereal)
  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 1/2 cup sorghum molasses
  • 2 cups scalded milk
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 2 packages dry yeast
  • 1 /2 cup brown sugar
  • 8 cups all-purpose flour
Directions
  1. In a large saucepan combine shredded wheat biscuits (crumbled), grapenuts, sorghum, shortening, brown sugar and salt
  2. Stir in boiling water
  3. Let stand 10 min- utes
  4. Allow scalded milk to cool to lukewarm and stir in yeast until it's dissolved
  5. Stir milk-yeast into shredded wheat mixture
  6. Gradually add flour until dough becomes stiff. Turn out onto a lightly floured surface and knead 8-10 minutes
  7. Place in greased bowl in a warm location and let rise to double in bulk
  8. Punch down and shape into three loaves
  9. Place in greased 9x5 loaf pans and let rise to tops of pans
  10. Bake in moderate (350F.) oven 35- 40 minutes.
