TEN MINUTE LYE SOAP USING GREASE
  • Ingredients
  • two quarts of melted and strained grease
  • 1-1/2 cupfuls of lye
  • 1 quart of water
  • 1 cupful of household ammonia
  • 2 tablespoonfuls of powdered borax
  • 1/2 cup of warm water
Directions
  1. Dissolve lye in 1 quart of water
  2. Grease must be luke- warm; put grease into iron, enamel or granite pot (never in aluminum) and stir in lye. Dissolve Borax in 1/2 cup of warm water
  3. Add the ammonia and borax and stir all for 5 minutes by the clock
  4. When hardened somewhat, cut into bars. CAUTION: Stir the lye into the grease, NOT the grease into the lye.
