Bechamel Sauce
  • Ingredients
  • 1-1/4 cups milk
  • 1/2 bay leaf
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • salt and white pepper to taste
Directions
  1. In a small saucepan, heat milk and bay leaf over low heat to just below boiling point
  2. Remove from heat
  3. Remove and discard bay leaf
  4. In a small saucepan, melt butter over medium heat
  5. Stir in flour, cook 2 minutes, stirring constantly
  6. Remove from heat
  7. Gradually stir in hot milk
  8. Return pan to heat
  9. Stir until thick and smooth
  10. Reduce heat to low and cook 10 minutes stirring occasionally
  11. Season with salt and pepper
  12. If sauce is not used immediately, cover surface tightly with plastic wrap.
