Cranberry Apple Pear Relish
  • Ingredients
  • 12 ounces fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 1 apple, peeled and diced
  • 1/2 pear, peeled and diced
  • 1/2 cup dried cranberries
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 /4 cup fresh orange juice
  • 1 /2 teaspoon grated orange rind (zest)
  • Pinch nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons Grand Marnier or other orange liqueur
Directions
  1. Place cranberries, apple, pear, dried cranberries, sugar, orange juice, zest and nutmeg in a 4-quart saucepan
  2. Bring mixture to a boil
  3. Lower heat and simmer, uncovered, stirring frequently, until fruit is tender and mixture thickens a bit, about 30 to 45 minutes
  4. Cool slightly and stir in the liqueur
  5. Chill for 2 hours or up to 1 week. Yield: 1-1/2 cups SUGGESTED USE: This relish is a nice change from the traditional cranberry sauce
  6. It works well with turkey, of course, but also with chicken and pork.
